Come play on the ice! Join us at the Mt Sima ski hill and climb ice towers of over 40 feet.
The Ice Tower Experience offers winter fun for all ages. Just minutes from town, the Ice Towers are reconstructed every winter at the Mt Sima Ski Hill area.
All the gear you need for ice climbing is included. We have a wide selection of climbing boots and crampons to ensure a good fit, as well as harnesses, helmets, and ice axes. After gearing up, your friendly local guide will go through a safety briefing and provide instruction on basic ice climbing techniques. We recommend bringing warm layers, good gloves, and a sense of adventure!
While the goal is to reach the summit for some, for others it is simply good fun to explore the ice and snow formations that grow as the towers take shape over the winter.
There is nothing like the satisfaction of working hard to reach the summit and coming back down to a high five from your belayer and a deep sense of accomplishment. Snacks and hot drinks are available by request.
Ice Towers are fun for the whole family. We welcome ice explorers aged 8 and up. For a small fee, folks not interested in climbing are welcome to borrow micro-spikes to enjoy an afternoon at the towers and watch the climbers.
If you want to take your ice exploration to the next level, try the Wild Ice Waterfall Adventure where we climb a naturally frozen waterfall amidst the pristine wilderness of the Yukon backcountry.

Equinox Adventures
We had the pleasure to take part in the Equinox ice wall climb and zip line excursion and it was one of our best experiences while visiting Whitehorse. They wall is right next to the Takhini Hot Springs. Our guide that day was Chris who is the owner and he was amazing. Very helpful and extremely friendly. We felt safe in everything we did.
The ice wall climb can be challenging but Chris sets you up for success. In between climbs he had warm tea for us to enjoy as we relaxed. He was very informative about not only ice wall climbing but with any other questions we had about the area. After we were done we went down the zip line across the frozen lake. The view over the lake is pretty amazing and when you zip line down it you get a great rush.
Again this was a great part of our trip and we felt like we did something that we would be able to do few other places.
Highly Recommended!
I first climbed with Equinox three years ago when I signed up for a private Intro to Ice Climbing class at the ice tower as something fun to do on a Yukon holiday. I've returned each winter since, bringing friends to climb the ice towers and hiring Chris as a private guide for back country ice climbing. They offer great instruction for kids and adults and there are several beautiful local ice climbing areas for day trips. They have rental equipment available.
We spent 3 hours ice climbing. First time for all of us. Equinox team is very professional and friendly. We spent a very good time climbing with them and learning about their passion. I would go back again for sure!
Just spent and excellent afternoon with Equinox climbing the towers at Mt. Sima, Whitehorse. We were three kids ages 10, 12, and 15. Adults had a hoot watching, this time. Kids were all busy doing something for the whole two hours. A great introduction to ice climbing and ziplining!
