Firth River – Arctic Tundra Beauty and Wildlife Under the Midnight Sun

Canadian River Expeditions

Float to the Arctic Ocean enjoying wildlife, wildflowers, hiking and culture beneath the midnight sun!

Overview

Join us on Canada's oldest waterway for a unforgettable journey through the Arctic Tundra!

Rising from the British Mountains, the Firth flows through the tundra's untamed wilderness to the Arctic Ocean.

High above the treeline, our Firth River expeditions are known for their intimate encounters with iconic species - including musk oxen, caribou, moose, raptors, bears and wolves. Every year a few lucky guests experience the incredible phenomenon of the Porcupine Herd's migration across the river in July - some 225 000 individuals!

Hiking opportunities are boundless, with Arctic wildflower displays and wind swept vistas to take your breath away. Guests can even walk along the webs of caribou trails carved into the landscape over millennia by the Porcupine herd.

Want to dig a little deeper into the secrets held by this jewel of the Arctic? Every year we run a Rafting with Researchers trip in collaboration with Parks Canada. Joined by scientists and Inuvialuit interpreters, guests will have the opportunity to immerse themselves into the natural and cultural history of the Firth from an Indigenous perspective, as well as participate in scientific research projects. Past research has included benthic surveys, water quality monitoring and raptor surveys.

Our guides' experience is unparalleled in the industry - many have been guiding with us for over two decades. With a fully catered menu and expedition grade equipment, you can be sure you will be well fuelled and well equipped for your tundra adventure of a lifetime!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE TAT

John

We've had the Tatshenshini/Alsek River Expedition on our bucket lists for a long time and finally made the trip! As a whitewater rafting expedition company owner for decades, I am very impressed with this company's attention to operational efficiency and customer experience details. The quality of meals, camping sites and equipment, attention to safety, pace of the trip, contingency plans for weather and water levels, and the overall customer service is first-class. When considering a Tatshenshini/Alsek Expedition, we highly recommend Nahanni and Canadian River Expeditions!
